ODB Jesus

The Old Lady knows a priest who consistently refers to Jesus as “Our Dear Brother Jesus”.

The Old Lady abbreviates that moniker as “ODB Jesus”… pronounced Oh-D-Be Jesus, which sounds like “Oh to be Jesus”…

… and really, isn’t that pretty much what being a Christian is all about?

Food Glorious FOOD!

The Old Lady is an overtly flaming foodie. She makes no secret of her lust for the delights of the table.

Someone asked her how she could have left Sarasota, one of the culinary capitols of the country, for the wilds of extreme south Georgia.

She admits to missing the fleshpots of the Suncoast, and confesses to longing for “…the fish we ate in [Sarasota] that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.”*

But there is good stuff to eat everywhere. You just have to find it.

Last night, for example, she visited the 306 North restaurant in downtown Valdosta to hear some friends play music.

As she grooved to the tunes, The Old Lady savored dish after tasty dish: a fine smoked duck and Stilton bruschetta drizzled with local honey, a bowl of she-crab bisque topped with a dollop of sriracha cream, and a crème brulee with just the right thickness of glasslike caramelized sugar and that eggy flavor that marks a proper custard.

“And,” murmured The Old Lady contentedly, “the music was great, and in Sarasota that meal would have cost about three times as much!”

The grass is not necessarily greener… or tastier!… on the other side of the state line.

From Russia with LOVE

The Old Lady was flipping channels and lucked on the FIFA World Cup opening ceremonies, live from Russia.

“Not a bad show,” she conceded grudgingly… but all of a sudden, as Brit singer Robbie Williams belted out his 2002 hit Feel, the dancers in front of him arranged their bodies to spell out LOVE on the pitch.

“Whoa!” exclaimed The Old Lady, “now they’ve got my attention!”

Next dancers decked out in Cirque de Soleil style costumes in the colors of their respective national flags pranced across the pitch in a peaceful display of pride and unity.

“That’s what I like to see on TV,” sighed The Old Lady in contentment. “And the guy wearing gold lame shorts balancing on top of a giant soccer ball while juggling three regulation-size soccer balls was a nice Dr Seuss-y type touch.”

You Auto Go

A reliable auto mechanic is a great find, and one can be found in Valdosta GA.

Mr. Ben has kept The Old Lady’s old pickup truck running for some years now, always at reasonable prices.

But here’s the cool part: his new shop, Ben’s Tire & Auto Repair, displays an array of 1920’s vintage auto history.

It’s worth stopping in just to browse the memorabilia!

Ben’s Tire and Auto Repair is located at 2183 N. Ashley St., Valdosta GA. Hours are 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The store can be contacted by calling (229) 242-8777.
