A Mess of Moss

Spanish moss hangs abundantly among the oaks of extreme south Georgia.

When it falls to the ground most people regard it as a mess, rake it up, and burn it.

But one gardener is recycling the moss by edging her flowerbeds with it.

The moss clings together to prevent erosion, protecting and nourishing the soil as it breaks down..

The soft, natural border blends well with the plants and holds moisture.

Spanish moss is sustainable, and shows us how working with our environment instead of trying to control it benefits us as well as our planet.
