The Old Lady loves to go hiking with her friends, and today they showed her a walking trail not four miles from her Cottage and very near downtown Valdosta.
The Azalea City Trail starts on the corner of Drexel Park on East Brookwood Drive and ends at Gordon Street near Lankford Drive/Melody Lane (GoogleMaps: Azalea City Trail).
It wanders through the prettiest parts of the Valdosta State University campus then through a shady, wooded area beside a small stream.
The trail is a level concrete sidewalk, making it accessible to all ages and abilities.
To steal a slogan: Walking in the Woods is Very Valdosta!
If it will accommodate my walker, I’m in. If I poop out, I’ll just sit down and listen to the birds and feel the breeze until you come back around to get me. Could use some fresh air to bring me back to life. Been a cave dweller a little too much recently.
I highly recommend outdoors time, no matter where you are. Just sitting outdoors in the sunshine and fresh air brings proven benefits for our health… physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
I remember when that trail was being built. The person who was managing the project said some pretty petty things about it because the trail ventured through poor neighborhoods. But I think we need more trails, going into all parts of the town, myself.
