‘Tis the traditional season of joy and no, it’s not over yet: y’all pagans may be taking down your trees early but The Old Lady hangs out with Episcopalians who celebrate Christmas from December 25 clear through to January 5, and woe betide any who dare to toss any tinsel before Epiphany!
Book recommendation: Douglas Abrams’ The Book of Joy, based on several days of conversations between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The Tibetan Buddhist and the Anglican Archbishop, old and dear friends, discuss how to achieve and then maintain a joyful attitude in the face of difficult and non-joyful circumstances.
The Dalai Lama has learnt his lessons during decades of exile from his beloved Nepal.
The Archbishop’s lessons came while officiating over literally hundreds of funerals during the fight against apartheid in South Africa.
Together they list eight easily-applied techniques which can help you maintain a joyful attitude in your own life. They also define the important difference between joy and happiness.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Cousin Julie!!
Love you
There is a lot of historical support for leaving decorations up until Imbolc/ Candlemas on Feb 2. Of course, it might not be wise with a live tree strung with electric lights.
You are such a gentle soul, always thinking of others and John and myself hope that 2018 will bring you more happiness and peace of the mind.
Glad to know someone else celebrates through Epiphany. I will read any book based on your recommendation. Peace and blessings.
