“It’s nice, to see The People win!” smiled the Purple Dragon.
The Dragon’s friends had been sued by the city they love, after they worked to gather enough petitions to add to their city’s charter an amendment ensuring citizens the RIGHT TO CLEAN WATER.
Enough petitions got the amendment a spot on the ballot and more than 80% of voters approved it – but the city council objected, and took the group to court.
The judge ruled in the group’s favor!
The amendment must be added!

It’s sad to see our democracy crumbling, even at the local level. It’s just baffling! After these activists followed the law and gathered a valid petition for a proposal that 80% of the community supported, they sued the activists. For what? Revenge? “How dare you judge our authority?” Every single one of those counsel members should be challenged in the next election. I think you could win an overwhelming victory just by passing out flyers saying, “Did you vote for clean water? These are the members who challenged the will of the voters and *sued* to keep that out of the city charter.”
